Every month, the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators hosts Write This, a challenge to writers:
Respond to a prompt in 50 words or less. The top 20 entries appear in an online gallery.
This month’s prompt was, “In 50 words or less, portray an inopportune time to get a case of hiccups.”
My entry, at 49 words:
“Fetch the plates from the bottom shelf and that big case up high. Cups — one for each guest.”
Plates – check.
What next?
Oh yes…
The kitchen boy delivered the butler’s odd instruction to the palace wizard:
“Give each guest at Princess Punctilious’ wedding a bad case of hiccups!”
